I was excited to participate in the virtual maiden meeting of the GFF Replenishment CSO Core Group that took place on Friday 27th October 2017. The group is set up by the GFF secretariat to support and promote CSOs’ collaboration and efforts around the GFF replenishment, advocate globally and in target markets. The group will also be linking up with the GFF Replenishment Leadership Reference Group. This followed a successful launch that took place on the 20th September 2017 on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, with the goal of raising US$2 billion to expand the GFF to a total of 50 countries during the next five years. The financing has the potential to catalyze enough additional domestic and global resources to close the current estimated funding gap of US$33 billion per year to help save the lives of up to 38 million women, children and adolescents by 2030.

The maiden meeting was moderated by the GFF Secretariat  and focused on; GFF Replenishment Overview, CSO roles in the GFF replenishment and how Country CSOs are supporting and can support the replenishment as well as advocacy materials needed.

Members of the CSOs Core Group are as follows;

  1. Joanne Carter; Results
  2. Aminu Magashi Garba; Africa Health Budget Network
  3. Angeline Mutunga; Advance Family Planning/Jhpiego
  4. Simon Wright ; Save the Children
  5. Jenny Ottenhoff ; One Campaign
  6. Kadi  Toure ; PMNCH

For more information on how civil society organizations will join the larger virtual meeting which will be convened at a later date to have a broader discussion on how CSOs will support resource mobilization efforts, please email Kadi Toure at tourek@who.int with your name and organization.
